Negative Thoughts

Thoughts are things -  YOUR thoughts make up YOUR reality.

There is a universal law, The Law of Attraction. 

This Law states that whatever you think about on a consistent basis you will get more of – essentially you are attracting to you whatever you think about.

So if you are thinking “I hope I don’t hit it into the bunker” – where do you think the ball will land the majority of time?

You dominant thought is on the BUNKER!!

Think about what you DO want to happen, Think about your TARGET to the exclusion of all else.

You might be asking “How can I do that, my thoughts just seem to sneak up on me and what I am thinking is not my TARGET?

Lets do a simple exercise:

Don’t think of a golf club!!

OK what type of club DID you imagine in your mind??

You see the subconscious mind does not process “don’ts”!!

So what you are really telling your subconscious mind is “Hit it into the lake”.

Here is a fun and revealing exercise that you can do.

Go up to your dog (if you don’t have a dog, find a friend that owns a dog and have him do this exercise).

Tell your dog “Don’t SIT!!”

After your dog takes a seat perhaps you will come to the realization that dogs don’t process the word “DON’T” either.

Your subconscious mind is just like your dog, it does what it is commanded to do (I am assuming you have an obedient dog here), it asks no questions but does what it is asked to do.

Negative thoughts and words affect us physically as well as mentally and emotionally.

To succeed at golf or anything for that matter you must talk to yourself with the language of confidence use words such as:
Positively, absolutely, sure, without a doubt, no question about it.

Imagine the following scenario:  You call a friend and ask them if they would like to play a round of golf with you next Saturday morning – your friend replies “I’ll TRY to make it”.

Question:  Do YOU think they will show up?

However if they answered: “Absolutely, I will be there without a doubt no question about it”!!

Now you will have somebody to play with on Saturday morning.

The way you talk to yourself has the EXACT same effect!!

When you say to yourself “Well…I guess I will try and make this 4 foot putt” or “I wish and hope that the ball will go in “.

Get ready for a 3 putt experience.

All of the following words IMPLY failure:

Try
Hope
Wish
Could
Should
Would
But – which negates everything said before it!
 
In the famous words of Yoda – “There is no try, only do”.

Many of us have negative imprints from past experiences.
These negative beliefs affect us without us even knowing that we are being pushed into a direction that we didn’t choose.

One negative belief or imprint that some golfers have is that they always screw up at the first tee. This becomes a self-fullfilling prophecy.

Perhaps they DID indeed screw up once or twice at the beginning of a game – those experiences are remembered and recalled every time that they approach the start of the game.

It starts with first tee jitters, and ends with a severely shanked, hooked, twisted, screwy shot off the tee.
